Community Media Centre

O2i Design Consultants collaborated with a local charity to establish a new Community Media Centre in Bridgwater. We assisted Somerset Film in securing funding from the Arts Council England to refurbish their premises on Bridgwater High Street.
Our team designed and oversaw the complex construction of the new Community Media Centre studios. The renovation now features community rehearsal/meeting spaces, hosts local film and TV archives, and enhances edit facilities. Improved access and connectivity are now available, with flexible studios within a new three-storey rear extension. Circulation links ensure full accessibility, including dedicated space for disabled filmmakers.

During the renovation, extensive temporary steel propping supported the building’s structure whilst the building was gutted. A new steel and concrete framework created three studio spaces. Our project earned the “Best Public Service Building” Award across the South West, recognized by the LABC South West Regional Building Excellence Awards 2017, for the Engine Room’s renovation and extension in Bridgwater for Somerset Film.
