Eco Development of 5 Houses
Bridgwater, SomersetSpecialising in sustainable architecture, O2i Design Ltd was entrusted by the developer to create detailed design schemes and gain Building Regulations approval for this eco development of 5 houses. The homes feature fully owned PV panels, providing free electricity and an annual FIT income, along with solar thermal panels that ensure hot water availability. We implement rainwater harvesting systems for toilets and washing machines, supplemented by outside water harvesting to sustain the gardens. To maintain optimal air quality, the homes are equipped with a mechanical ventilation system complete with humidity sensors. Additionally, a pellet stove serves as our central heating and hot water source, offering low costs and RHI income.
The development won several awards: The Daily Telegraph’s Best Sustainable Development (2006), the CABE Building for Life (2007), Regen SW Best Sustainable Development award, the RICS Best South-West Project (2008) and SW LABC Building Excellence Awards for Best Sustainable Project (2011). The development was featured as one of four national case studies of best-practice sustainable architecture in a DCLG Sustainable Housing publication (Code for Sustainable Homes). The project was also featured in the Telegraph’s article – Are eco-homes worth building?
