Remodelling a warren of rooms is never straightforward, but this renovation and remodel needed a little extra help. With a limited budget and an emotional bond to the house, additional attention was required when uncovering and retaining elements from previous generations of the same family. Three artistic generations had left their mark on the building and sentimental features were uncovered and retained throughout the course of the project.
The owners commissioned O2i Design Ltd to take a group of disjointed buildings, including converted and extended outbuildings and turn them into a cohesive home. The brief was to create an elegant, open plan space whilst retaining some of the home’s original features. The new scheme provides an improved flow of circulation through the original house and creates a large sociable kitchen with comfortable seating areas, and a spacious dining room.
More than just a space to create meals, this is the pivotal heart of the home from which you can access a new studio, hall, entrance, utility room, cloak room/shower. With windows onto three aspects of the garden, substantial amounts of modern glazing, as well as a large ceiling lantern, this interior is bright and light. The resultant architecture is a modern and uplifting space which complements the original building.
The building work was undertaken by Colegrave Construction Limited.
The project was a finalist for a total of 3 awards in the LABC South West Regional Building Excellence Awards 2017.
